Australian GP: Alvaro Post-Race Quotes

"After the problems that we had in the practices and the work that we had to put in to get back up to the front, it was a pity that I fell. This morning we made an adjustment to the bike and I fell, meaning that I couldn't assess the change fully even though I had felt good. Everything was going great in the race, and I saw that I was strong.
I had rear tyre problems that caused me to slide around, but I still tried to put it all on the line and take some risks. I only wanted to win, second place was not enough. The finale leaves a bittersweet taste, but at least I can say that I gave my all. Even with everything in place for a good ride, sometimes you need a bit of luck on your side, and for the second consecutive GP we didn't have that.
It is a pity, because the title is now even further away, but we just have to think that the next two races can go our way, and we can do much better."

Alvaro Reflects On Difficult Qualifying

"This obviously isn't the result I was hoping for. We had some problems with the rear of the bike yesterday and this morning it was the same story. In the afternoon it looked like we'd improved it a little but I'm still not comfortable. We tried a hard front tyre but it didn't work as we'd hoped. It makes the bike very stable in the direction changes but we need to adapt the chassis to it and make the whole thing run sweeter. We can't throw the towel in yet - we have to keep working and do everything we can to improve and make sure we're in a position to try and fight back in the race tomorrow."

Australian GP: Alvaro Friday Quotes

"It was pretty windy today and to be honest I noticed it a lot. I had a few problems in some of the corners, where I had no feeling for the bike. It was moving around a lot in the exits and I couldn't open the throttle. We worked on both bikes but the second one, which had a different chassis configuration, didn't work as we had hoped. Anyway, we have to work with what we have and the conditions we're faced with. Hopefully we can improve tomorrow because this wasn't a good start. Apart from Barberá the rest of us are within a second so I guess we'll all be looking to improve. This is the kind of circuit where a few small changes can gain you a lot of time. It's only the first session and we have plenty of work to do to make me more comfortable on the bike."

Alvaro Languishing In 12th In Friday Session

Alvaro had something of a frustrating Friday at Phillip Island not getting comfortable with his bike in the windy conditions. It's not by any means a "bad" circuit for him, so let's hope this is just a minor issue and he can get things properly lined up tomorrow...

Alvaro Looks Ahead To Phillip Island

"Australia is a circuit that holds a lot of good memories for me because I won my World Championship here. It is a wonderful track with some very fast corners and it is always great fun to ride there. We were dealt a severe blow in Portugal but we got to Phillip Island without any pressure on us now because the championship is virtually over. I've taken it well and now that I've got nothing to lose my only objective is to give it everything I have to try and have fun and win my final three races on a 250."

Bati Romps Home Second In Thrilling Aussie GP

A nerve-shredding 25 lap race at Phillip Island eventually saw Alvaro come in a very close (0.223) second to Simoncelli, and ahead of Mika Kallio in third.
Third off the grid, he was first within seconds and spent the rest of the race trading back and forth with the Italian, apart from one lap where having been forced offline he dropped to fourth, recovering second position again promptly on the main straight.
Here's his take on things...

"I tried all that I could to win, but in the end it wasn't possible. I am happy because we had a good race. I tried to lead early on, but this was difficult because Marco also wanted to do that, so we had an entertaining fight with a high race pace. At the midway point we touched, and I lost a little ground on him that I was able to get back before the final lap.
I tried to pass him but he shut the door very well on every corner. I was just going to hang onto him for the straight, but he closed off too much for me. It was a pity to lose these five points, but I'm happy for the way the race went and now want to keep pushing at Malaysia. Marco is riding well at the moment, but we will keep fighting. "

It was great - if veering towards unbearable to watch lap in lap out - his smooth and consistent riding a huge contrast to the erratic and wild closing speeds and cornering angles of Simoncelli.
A small consolation to not clinching the win is that having laid down a number of fastest laps, he comes away with a new circuit record - 1:32.710
Fantastic job today Bati - Estupendo! Let's hope you go one better in Sepang :)

Alvaro Bautista: Post-Qualifying Quote, Australia

It was a positive second day for Bati, who was fourth fastest in free practice and made continual improvements in the afternoon before launching his grid attack - a lap of 1'32.917 sealing third spot, setting the fastest top speed with 271.3km/h.


3rd Álvaro Bautista: 1.32.917 (21 laps):
"It's a shame we had a little setback halfway through the session, when the bike developed an electrical fault and I had to come in to swap for bike number two, which had a different configuration. We worked hard to adapt it and in the end we finished well.
It's going to be a tough race tomorrow because everybody is really close but it's good to be starting from the front row - unlike other races where I've had to fight through. We'll try to get a good start, run with the front group and give 100% for a top result.
Marco is really strong here but we have to put the brakes on him. Our target today was the front row and so far, so good."

Alvaro can be rightly happy with his performances today, following up a strong showing in the dry with a sheet-topping wet QP1 which puts him on provisional pole.
What weather tomorrow brings and whether todyay's times stick or count for nothing we don't know, but it's good to hear Bati talking about the overall confidence that today has delivered...

"The most important thing aside from the pole this afternoon is the confidence I gained in the wet. I felt really comfortable, to the point that I stayed out on track for the entire session just gathering confidence and enjoying myself. We had a problem with my first bike halfway through this morning and I had to take the second bike out but I'm happy because the pace was good, even though we still have some set-up work to do in the dry. Hopefully we'll get that chance tomorrow, when I'd love to be fighting for pole again."

Alvaro Takes Provision Pole In Wet Aussie QP1

Alvaro Bautista is on provisional 250cc pole after a wet opening qualifying session at Phillip Island for Sunday's Australian Grand Prix.
Bati didn't head the times until the final fifteen minutes, but when he got there he stayed there, taking provisional pole with eight minutes to go with a time of 1:43.873.

Alvaro's Excellent Podium Down Under

Well, in a weekend when - let’s be honest - nobody was going to touch Lorenzo, Alvaro’s second place at the 250cc Australian GP at Philip Island was more than respectable.
His third place on the grid was excellent and his dicing throughout the race was superb to bring home some extra points for his season tally and yet another podium in his rookie 250 year. Awesome :)

Although to us, it merely looked exciting and an excellent fight, Bati clearly had a harder time of it than was really visible to us.
In some roughly (and probably poorly) translated words, here’s Alvaro’s take on how things went...
“It has been a difficult race... The conditions were very difficult, with a lot of wind.
Lorenzo just escaped and was it impossible to stay with him, so we concentrated on the fight for second position. That was my objective.
In the end I took second. The bike moved around a lot, and it became difficult to work with the wind. But I am happy, mainly because in this first year in 250cc I am feeling really good about it. I hope that this carries on in next the two races.”

Bati Third On The Grid For 250cc Australian Grand Prix

Excellent news: Bati has wound up with 3rd spot on the grid for tomorrow’s Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island in a session that saw Jorge Lorenzo basically untouchable out front, and a nasty looking fall for Roberto Locatelli; who thankfully seems okay.
The circuit is a good one for Alvaro, who of course clinched his 125cc championship title there last year. Hopefully he can work some magic again in the race tomorrow.

Here’s some of his words post-session...
“Again I am on the front row. I am very happy with that because I haven’t been on the front row since Holland, and mainly because I a am also feeling good about the bike.
We have been testing some things in the official practice and I have kept things which I liked, and have been able to go fast. The speed is not bad, although Lorenzo is perhaps a step ahead.
Tomorrow I will try to take advantage of the front row start, and I must to try to be ahead right from the beginning and to give all the fight I possibly can.”
