See You In August

Okay - I'm away travelling for 2 to 3 weeks now (neatly fitting into the summer break for 250cc and 125cc classes!) so there's not likely to be any updates here until the beginning of August.
First up is a couple of weeks in Egypt, based in Luxor and mixing sunbathng and swimming with visting tombs and temples on the east and west banks of the Nile and farther north too - then a couple of days in Spain attending the Alvaro Bautista Official Fanclub Summer Party in Bati's hometown of Talavera de la Reina. Awesome :)

Anyhoooo... for all the best updates and chat on what's going on with your favourite riders I'd always recommend you get over to BatiFans.com - The Alvaro Bautista Fan Forum and join in...

I'm going to miss the cats - and I'm going to miss DEXTER - but otherwise I'm stoked and ready for some well-deserved rest.
See you back here soon :)

Alvaro - Sachsenring; Post-Race Quote...

3rd Alvaro Bautista:
"I think that today we had a very good result. The first two laps were very slow for me because II just couldn't find any feeling, and the bike was stepping out on the front and rear. At the start it was hard to ride, but as the race went on I felt stronger and more confident as I tried to make up positions.
I am happy with the result, but above all I am pleased to have been able to bounce back from a difficult position. At the end of the race I was set on second, but then the pace picked up and I didn't want to take a big risk.
It was much more important to finish third than to take a gamble and not finish."

Bautista Takes Third After Awesome Fightback In Germany

Well, after a troubling weekend of not appearing at ease, Alvaro Bautista managed to overcome a dreadful start (which saw him go down to 17th position on Lap1!) to have a stupendous chagre back up through the field - in ever worsening conditions - to eventually take an excellent third position, little more than a gnat's chuff behind Hector Barbera.
Simoncelli was taking his new improved bike off from the pack and wasn't going to be caught, so the third was a very welcome result and now takes Bati up to third in the overall World Cahmpionship.

Alvaro - Sachsenring; Saturday Quote...

5th Alvaro Bautista: 1.24.253 (23 laps):
"We had some problems yesterday morning - I wasn't comfortable and even though we improved in the afternoon we still had some things to work on. Today I felt more comfortable in both sessions and picked up the pace.
I think we're in good shape now even though we have struggled to find the right set-up. Simoncelli is fast here and he'll be the man to follow tomorrow but sometimes on a Sunday things don't always go like in practice. We'll have to push hard to stay with the guys at the front and fight hard to have a chance at the end.
This GP is proving tricky, as it was for me last year, because I don't think my lines are great. Anyway, I'm happier with the way I rode today, we're doing a good job and we'll see if we can take another step forward tomorrow."

Alvaro - Sachsenring; Friday Quote...

11th Alvaro Bautista: 1. 25.007 (21 laps):
"I felt a little uncomfortable with the bike this morning and in the afternoon I improved but there were too many people in my way to improve the lap time. Let's hope the rain stays off tomorrow so we can improve.
The section that's giving us the most trouble is the series of left-handers in the middle of the lap so that's where we need to work on.
The key to improving my lap time is to getter better references and adapt the set-up of my Aprilia more to the characteristics of the circuit."

Oh, And While We're On The Subject...

It's interesting to note in that crash.net article below about the BBC and MotoGP coverage that "no mention has been made" regarding commentary teams.
Given the necessarily flat reaction I've had to what they've said (and not said) about 250cc and 125cc coverage, I can only hang onto hopes that they'll make a good call regarding who should be in the commentary box.

And there is of course only one possible answer ;)
Come on Beeb... it's a no-brainer...

BBC & MotoGP Coverage - Latest

An update on the MotoGP coverage story, starting with this from Crash.net

**************************************************

BBC Sport have confirmed they will continue to show MotoGP through to 2013 after extending their deal to have the exclusive UK TV rights of the championship.

Although not a surprise after the announcement that Eurosport had lost their pan-European coverage in favour of national distributors, the BBC will continue to show all the races – 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP - live, as well as the qualifying sessions.
Of these, only MotoGP will continue to be shown live on BBC Television, with the 125cc, 250cc races and qualifying broadcast on their interactive service.
In addition, MotoGP will now be available to watch on BBC's popular iPlayer, which offers the chance for viewers to catch up on the race through the BBC website if they miss it on television.

The decision to continue showing MotoGP on BBC will buoy the channel's motorsport coverage further after the announcement earlier this year that they have won the rights to show the Formula 1 World Championship too.

“We are delighted to have secured, for the first time, fully exclusive rights to the world's premier, and most watched motorbike competition,” Dominic Coles, BBC Sport's Director of Sport Rights, said.
“Alongside our recent acquisition of Formula One, BBC Sport has become the home of motorsport in the UK; a one-stop shop for fans of the very best two wheel and four wheel, adrenalin-fuelled sport action across TV, radio and online services.”
“With James Toseland making a very promising start to his MotoGP career, Bradley Smith shining in the 125s, and Scott Redding making history in that series recently at Donington Park, the future for British riders in MotoGP looks good, and the BBC will be there all the way to tell their story.”

Manel Arroyo, Dorna's Managing Director, added they were pleased to have secured a deal with one of the world's foremost television broadcasters.
“Dorna is delighted to extend its collaboration with the BBC, and thanks to their prestige and their dedication to MotoGP, we are sure that the Championship will continue to grow in the UK. We are also happy that fans will not miss out and can continue to enjoy all races and qualifying sessions in the future.”

No mention has been made as to who will present and commentate the coverage. Currently, Charlie Cox, Steve Parrish and Suzie Perry anchor the BBC coverage.
However, there is a campaign behind the popular threesome of Toby Moody, Julian Ryder and Randy Mamola, who led the Eurosport coverage, which could well prompt the BBC to revise its line-up.

WE SAY:
Well, as the article suggests - this was pretty much expected given the previous announcements from both the Beeb themselves and Eurosport.
The main thing as far as fans beyond the top class goes, is the whole matter of the level of coverage - and live coverage - that we can expect of 250 and 125 events.
The suggestion that the races themselves will be shown live on BBCi (behind the red button across BBC channels) is welcome if true.
But having been spoilt by extensive practice and qualifying coverage across all classes thanks to Eurosport, it's worrying to note that *no mention whatsoever* is made of these.
We can only hope that the BBC has the dangly bits to back up the boisterous claims of Dominic Coles of how good the service will be, and make sure that we DO get to continue to see all that action. Otherwise his so-called "home" of motorsport will be a pretty crappy home.

Only time and the eventual release of further information on detailed scheduling plans will tell us how good or poor a decision this has all been.

For me - and I'm sure for many others - the jury is still very definitely out...
